Access to network printers

Desktop or laptop devices may use department network printers only if they have previously been enabled on the wired network or on the wireless network (network DSF-Ricerca only).

NOTICE: to print from the wireless network DSF-Ricerca previous authentication is required.

User and numer of printed pages are logged for all print requests (jobs).

Available network printers are:

Kyocera ECOSYS P4040dn: B&W printer, A4/A3 formats, located in room 2B13 (second floor).
Kyocera TASKalfa 5053ci: multi-function color and B&W printer, A4/A3 formats, located in room 1B11 (first floor).
NOTICE: color printing not available to graduating students.
HP PageWide Pro 750dw: color printer, A4 format, located in room 2A16 (second floor). Must be used only for color printing, not suitable to high volume B&W printing.
NOTICE: not available to graduating students.

Linux configuration (CUPS)

Hints for the installation on Linux using CUPS management interface.

Proper installation and configuration require the correct PPD file, which can be downloaded using the link given in the table below.
For printer Kyocera TASKAlfa 5053ci read the specific instructions following the link given in table.
Start CUPS management interface (e.g. point web browser to URL http://localhost:631).
Select Administration and Add printer (supply root credentials or other administrative credentials if required).
Select printing protocol LPD/LPR.
Printing server is lpdsrv.dsf.unica.it while queue name is specified in the table below, fill the Connection field with the URI from the Connection column in table.
Skip the pre-defined printer driver list, instead use the PPD file previously downloaded.
After installation, check printer setting (e.g. paper format, double-sided printing) and modify them if needed.

MacOS X configuration (CUPS)

Hints for the installation on MacOS X v10.8 or higher using CUPS management interface.

Proper installation and configuration require the correct PPD file, which can be downloaded using the link given in the table below.
For printer Kyocera TASKAlfa 5053ci read the specific instructions following the link given in table.
Open System Preferences and select Printers and Scanners.
Select IP.
Select printing protocol Internet Printing Protocol - IPP.
Printing server is cups.dsf.unica.it while queue name is specified in the table below.
Skip the pre-defined printer driver list, instead select Other and specify the PPD file previously downloaded.
After installation, check printer setting (e.g. paper format, double-sided printing) and modify them if needed.

Windows 10 - 11 configuration

Hints for the installation on Windows 10 or higher.

Proper installation and configuration require the correct drivers, which can be downloaded using the link given in the table below (ZIP or EXE file). Extract the ZIP file to a temporary folder or execute the EXE file to extract the drivers into a temporary folder.
Do not go on with automatic installation, but follow the steps below (the exact procedure could be different, depending on Windows version, please refer to the Windows documentation that applies to the version in use).
For printer Kyocera TASKAlfa 5053ci read the specific instructions following the link given in table.
Add a new printer from Windows Settings app (keys Win-I) selecting Bluetoot & Devices -> Printers and scanners -> Add a printer or scanner.
Select The printer that I want isn't listed and, in the new dialog, Select a shared printer by name.
In the enabled textbox, paste the Port name of your printer listed in the table below and press Next.
Select the folder with the printer driver previously downloaded and extracted. When prompted, select printer model as specified in the table below.
NOTICE: if Windows complains about missing digital signature, go on anyway.
NOTICE: after installation, the HP WidePage Pro 750dw requires some manual settings.
Under Printer Properties/Device Settings the Device Type must be set to the value COLOR, while Printer auto select, Manual Feed, Tray 1 and Tray 2 must be set to the value A4.
Under Printing Preferences/Printing Shortcuts verify the desired settings (e.g. paper size, duplex, etc.).
