The Kyocera TASKalfa 5053ci is a black&white and color multi-function printer, A4/A3 formats, located in room 1B11 (first floor).
Monthly usage limits (including copies) are as follows:
- black&white: 7500 impressions/month
- color: 3000 impressions/month
Since black&white usage limit is higher than color, please create two printers, one for black&white the other for color, and favor black&white printing whenever possible.
NOTE: in case usage limits are hit beforehand, the corresponding queue on print server will be disabled until the beginning of the following month.
The following procedure has been tested on Debian Stretch (9.0), but different linux distro may lead to differences w.r.t. the outlined procedure.
Download drivers from URL:

Extract and install package kyodialog for your Linux distro (PPD file and print filters).
NOTE: package has dependencies, e.g. on Debian Bookworm:
- apt install ./kyodialog_9.4-0_amd64.deb
NOTE: configure two printers, one for color the other for black&white
Start CUPS web interface in browser (when prompted, enter Linux administrator user and password) via URL:
http://localhost:631
- Select: Administration/Add printer
- Select: Other Network Printers - Internet Printing Protocol (http)
- Click : Continue>
- Enter: “http://cups.dsf.unica.it:631/printers/k5053ci_bw” (black&white) or “http://cups.dsf.unica.it:631/printers/k5053ci_c” (color)
- Click : Continue>
- Enter: “Kyocera TASKAlfa 5053ci BlackWhite” or “Kyocera TASKAlfa 5053ci Color”
- Click : Continue>
- Select: Make - Kyocera
- Click : Continue>
- Select: Model - Kyocera TASKalfa 5053ci (KPDL)
- Click : Add Printer>
In CUPS web interface click on printer name in Printers
- Select: Maintenance/Set default options
- Select: Options Installed/ Paper feeders Cassettes (3,4)
- Select: General: Media Size - A4
- Select: Media Type: Media XXX - Plain
- Click: Set default options
NOTE: without this setting the priter will refuse printing
In CUPS web interface click on printer name in Printers
- Select: Maintenance/Set default options
- Select: Imaging/Color mode - Black&White
- Click: Set default options
