Basic research on the electronic and optical response of materials provides the scientific platform for the development of novel and advanced photonic devices.  Our interest focuses on the optical properties of organic and hybrid systems, particularly nanoaggregates and nanostructured materials.  We customize spectroscopic tools to investigate light-matter interaction with sub-micron spatial resolution and on femtosecond time-scales.  The materials we investigate offer the prospect of low-cost, solution processable optoelectronic devices such as thin-film solar cells, visible and infrared photodetectors, organic lasers and optical amplifiers.
