Fabio Bernardini (born: Roma, 29 September 1966;
Laurea 1990 at University of Rome "Tor Vergata" and PhD 1994 at
University of Modena, Italy) is assistant professor
(ricercatore universitario) of
condensed matter physics at the University of Cagliari, Italy, and
member of
IOM-CNR,
the Istituto Officina dei Materiali of
CNR.
His activity
is devoted to the first-principles computational physics of materials
(bulk, interfaces, defects, surfaces...).
He has on record over 60 scientific
papers on refereed journals and 10 on books and conference proceedings, about 10
invited talks at international conferences, about
4000 citation hits. His past activity
was carried out, besides his present position, at the
Helsinki University of Technology in Finland
(1994-95).
He serves as referee for PRL, PRB, JAP, JPA.
FB's scientific interests are in the area of the structural,
electronic, dielectric and superconducting properties of solids and related systems
(defects, surfaces, interfaces, polarization, devices, etc.), based on ab initio
calculations. Recently he has been shifting towards superconductivity. The computational methods used are
density-functional
total-energy-force-stress and linear response methods, and the
first principles theory of superconductivity (SC-DFT).
Technically, ultrasoft pseudopotentials
plane wave or Projector Augmented Wave methods are used.
