Teaching by Vincenzo
Fiorentini
AA 2011-12
During Academic
year 2011/12, first semester, I taught 12 credits as follows:
"Structure of Matter", Laurea
Magistrale in Fisica, year 1, semester 1
This class is about basic solid state physics.
The syllabus is here.
Foundations of Computational
Physics, Laurea triennale in Fisica, year 2, semester 1
This class is about numerical methods applied to physical problems. The syllabus is here. A
resource page, with links, program, codes, assignments, doc, etc.
accumulated over the past years, is here.
In the second semester, I should teach half (3 credits) of
Multisciplinary Computing,
Laurea magistrale in informatica, year 2, semester 2
A class about numerical
methods applied, probably though not exclusively, to physics problems. Here the same
resource page.
AA 2010-11
During Academic
year 2010/11 I taught two classes for 11 credits in the first semester (Oct 2010 to
Jan 2011):
"Structure of Matter" (a funny traditional name),
Laurea
Magistrale, year 1, semester 1
This class will include a revision and complements of atomic and
molecular physics, and an overview of basic solid state physics.
The program (still evolving) is here.
Foundations of Computational
Physics, Laurea triennale, year 2, semester 1
By "popular demand" (no one else wanted it) I am once again in charge
of a course that I ran under various
guises for 15 years (about time for a change). This one is 5-credit. Here is a
resource page, with various links, program, codes, assignments, doc,
etc.
AA
2009/2010
During
Academic
year 2009/10 I taught three classes for a total of 24 credits.
In the
first semester (Oct to Dec
2009):
Solid State Physics 2 for graduates
(Laurea Specialistica)
This was about magnetism. Program
In the
second semester (Feb to May
2010):
Computational Physics for
undergraduates (Laurea triennale) - program
(08/09, but still applies)
This was the last instance of a course that I ran under various
guises for 15 years. About time for a change. This one is 6-credit, and
includes numerical linear
algebra, partial differential equations in
2D, the MonteCarlo Metropolis and molecular
dynamics methods. Here a
resource page, not properly maintained. The assignments for this course
are here.
Solid State Physics for
graduates
(Laurea Magistrale)
This big (12-credit) course has just ended. We have done
quite a bit of work on basic solid state (except for lattices/symmetry,
diffraction, phonons, which were treated in a previous course, and
superconductivity which is the core of another higher level course). A
rough synopsis with a sketch of book references is available here.
Video clips of most lectures are available on request. This course will
not be held in the future in this form due to change in the physics
curriculum.
